About This Plant
Symphyotrichum puniceum (Swamp Aster) is a native perennial wildflower that grows upright in clumps to 3–6 ft tall. It features violet-lavender daisy-like blooms from late summer to frost, with green foliage and purplish stems. It thrives in moist, rich soils (loamy or peaty) in full sun to partial shade and is well-suited for pollinator gardens, wetlands, and rain gardens. Seeds are planted and may require cold stratification.
